Later, he ventured into the banking sector, serving as a Manager at Omega Bank PLC (now Heritage Bank) from May 1999 to May 1999.
However, Biodun Oyebanji’s passion for politics drove him to take on various political roles in Ekiti State. He served as the Special Assistant (Parliament Affairs) and later as the Special Adviser (Parliament Affairs) to the Governor of Ekiti State. Additionally, he held positions like Chief of Staff to the Governor and Chairman of the Governing Board of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre. His dedication and commitment to public service led him to become the Secretary to the Ekiti State Government under Governor John Kayode Fayemi.

In December 2021, Biodun Oyebanji resigned from his role as the state SSG to focus on his gubernatorial race. His decision to contest for the governorship of Ekiti State garnered widespread attention. Supported by Governor Fayemi and former Governor Niyi Adebayo, he campaigned with a vision to bring positive change to his home state. After securing the APC’s gubernatorial ticket, he emerged victorious in the 2022 election, making him the first “homeboy” to become the governor of Ekiti State.
