Born on March 30, 1969, in Imo State, Nigeria, Peace was a trailblazing filmmaker and entertainment executive. She is best known as the visionary behind the prestigious Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), which has recognized and honored the incredible talent within the African film industry since its establishment in 2005.

Peace Anyiam-Osigwe was born into the illustrious Imo State dynasty of Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe from Nkwerre. Growing up in a family of eight siblings, Peace was the only girl. She pursued her education with determination, eventually graduating from Oxford Brookes University with a double major in political science and law.

Peace Anyiam-Osigwe  Career and Contributions:

Peace’s most notable achievement was undoubtedly the creation of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in 2005. This prestigious event became a symbol of recognition and celebration of African filmmakers, honoring their outstanding contributions to the industry. She served as the CEO of AMAAs until the 10th edition, leaving behind a lasting legacy.

In 2015, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe initiated the AfricaOne project, aimed at acknowledging and promoting African talent within the entertainment sector. Her dedication to advancing the film industry led her to launch the 100 Films initiative, which sought to elevate the quality of Nigerian cinema through seminars and training programs for aspiring filmmakers.

Aside from her work in film, Peace also had a passion for poetry and literature. She authored three books and published a journal called Clicks, focusing on advocacy issues and advocating for the black community in England. Peace ventured into television with her discussion program “Piece off my mind,” where she addressed social issues that often went unnoticed by mainstream media, advocating for marginalized voices.

Peace Anyiam-Osigwe  Personal Life and Philanthropy:

Peace Anyiam-Osigwe came from a family with a strong sense of philanthropy. Her brother, Michael, played a crucial role as the coordinator general of the Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to giving back to Nigerian society. Sadly, Michael passed away in 2014. Her mother, Dorothy Chinyere Anyiam-Osigwe, received recognition from then-president Olusegun Obasanjo for her humanitarian work in Nigeria, receiving the Officer of the Order of the Niger honor.

Tragically, at the age of 54, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe passed away on January 9, 2023, at St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire filmmakers, entertainers, and advocates across Africa.
